Abstract
Learning to read is fundamental for children, as it will develop in them the cognitive processes essential for their integration and experience in society, as a rational, social, cultural and political being. Therefore, it is important for teachers to be up-to-date and have a solid theoretical basis, as well as opportunities for them to perform different actions in the face of the pedagogical practices adopted in the teaching-learning process of reading in the classroom, since such practices will reflect on the student's critical-reflective development. In view of this, this research has the general objective of understanding the teaching conceptions about the role of Children's Literature for the formation of readers in the 1st and 2nd grades of Elementary School in a municipal school in Castro Alves-BA. This research presents a qualitative approach and its methodological outline is characterized by a descriptive study, as it fits as a field research that was carried out in a municipal school in Castro Alves-BA. As an instrument for data collection, a questionnaire was applied to the teachers of the respective classes. Thus, the present study was developed to understand how the teaching of reading, combined with children's literature, has been approached in the classroom.
