Disorderly Occupation of Urban Spaces and its Socio-environmental Consequences: The Case of Santa Rita Subdivision in the Municipality of Nazaré – BA
Abstract
Urban planning plays a fundamental role in mitigating the negative effects of urbanization, contributing to the sustainable development of urban areas. Therefore, various tools can be employed for data collection, assessment, and the proposal of improvements within the community, aiming for more efficient and sustainable urban management. In this context, this research seeks to answer the following question: How can the identification of environmental impacts assist in mitigating socio-environmental degradation resulting from uncontrolled occupation in the Santa Rita Housing Complex, located in the municipality of Nazaré-BA? Thus, the general objective of this study is to identify the socio-environmental impacts caused by disordered occupation, aiming at the development of an environmental technical report to assist in mitigating conflicts between the natural environment and built structures. These impacts are evident in the environmental degradation of the Santa Rita Housing Complex in Nazaré-BA. The findings highlight that improving urban socio-environmental quality depends on government intervention to address the identified problems, as well as active participation from the local community in seeking sustainable solutions. Therefore, integrated management between public authorities and residents is essential to promote balanced urban development and minimize environmental damage.
