Abstract
Brazil has the greatest plant biodiversity planet, there are at least three thousand known species of Non-Conventional Food Plants (NCFPs), have a high nutritional factor and inserting these plants in the diet allows an unrestricted and easily accessible diet. The objective was to carry out a bibliographical survey species of NCFPs present in the Recôncavo Baiano, as specific objectives: investigate the nutritional benefits; report the use in human food and the phytotherapeutic benefits of NCFPs. A systematic search was carried out of the bibliographies published: “Google Academic”, “Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System On-line” (MEDLINE) and “Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences” (LILACS). The result of this research, 19 plants were found distributed in 16 families, present in the reconcavo of Bahia according to the literature, the most representative being the Amaranthaceae, Polygonaceae and Myrtaceae. It was concluded, there are several NCFPs present in the Recôncavo Baiano, with nutritional benefits according to the literature. In addition to contributing to food security, presents several possibilities of use in cooking, has a positive impact on folk medicine, however, more studies should be done in the reconcave, since there are still few articles and works on NCFPs in the region.
